Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19, 2009
NSCA Celista Hall
The annual pottery show held in the quaint rural hall in Celista is now in
it's 20th year and celebrates "All Things Handmade". We pride ourselves in
showcasing only the finest area potters and clay artists with their new creations.
You'll find everthing from whimsical earthenware and decorative raku to earthy
stoneware and fine porcelain. Twenty years later it's still going strong despite everything from summer forest
fires, mosquito infestations and finally a move to the Celista Hall two years ago
when the firehall ceased rentals. The move was actually a bonus since the hall is
bigger and allowed space fo 5 extra booths. The five guest artists invited this
year bring with them an exciting mix of artwork and fine craft: Chuck St John - art
glass, (Nimbus Glass), Murray & Annette Anderson - decorative leatherwork (Sunburst
Crafts), Marla Bugge - stone jewellery, (Eyecandy Gallery), Mark and Bettina Wong -
metal furnishings and accessories (B-Line Designs) and Sandra Tucker - Fibre Arts
and Weaving.
The show has garnered the reputation as "the premier pottery sale" in the Shuswap
with people booking their week at the lake around the dates. The community buzzes
for weeks in advance and excited attendees find it a great opportunity to get a jump
start on their Christmas shopping list, or to pick up something really special for
their home. Visitors often comment that they've never seen so much high quality
pottery and selection of work in one room and "they'll be back". The artists will be on hand to discuss their work during the event. Hours are: 10-4
on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. Free admission and wheelchair accessible.
